A recap of overnight happenings at WT 2024

Did you not stay and follow along live all night? No? Oh... well, here's a quick recap of what you missed!

We still had a good number of teams on the paddle through the night. We heard the paddle got a whole lot harder in the dark (as it does). Our final team out on the paddle, came in around 5:00am.

Our top teams started the trek a little before dusk, but most teams who got to the trek over night were starting as things got dark, or deep into the night. Trekking at night brings a whole level of challenge for navigation and keeping yourselves moving at a good pace. We saw quite a few teams come through the trek, but we continue to have lots of teams out there - an AMAZING mid-pack race was being followed at HQ.

CP12, nearing the end of the trek was a source of endless amusement with 'cafe 12' offering warm beverages, a fire and snacks to racers who had to swim, or swim/shuttle with a canoe to arrive at the CP.

We started to see teams start onto the final bike leg through wee hours of the morning and had some nail biting moments as we watched the top teams struggle with the nav and a shake up in the rankings through this section - SO EXCITING - there was a lot of yelling at screens and analysis of what was happening and "NO, go THIS way" happening here at HQ.

As dawn broke, we had our top 10 in and we're exciting to keep reporting on the mid pack and start to report on our Lanterne Rouge!
