The Final Leg - Trek it out

How much do teams have left in the tank? The final leg of the race is a ‘sprint’ to the finish, from CP13/TA5 back to Lions Camp Dorset. Our race director has traced out a 7 km ‘optimal route’, part on trail, part on gravel road, then a last push through the woods. Will any teams have the energy, will, chutzpah to attempt a shorter route involving no trails and two short swims . . . in the dark? It’s a risky move, with fatigue and being wet and cold, but could save a considerable amount of distance, and likely time. These are the kind of decisions adventure racers have to make when they’re exhausted and literally in the dark. This is what makes adventure racers a breed apart.
