Why are some of the dots purple?

These teams are racing as "unranked". This means that they are racing for personal satisfaction and achievement, but will not be eligible for prizes. These teams may have needed to begin the race with only two members, they may have chosen to race unranked, or they may be continuing on, after a teammate has retired from the race.
