2nd Place! Peninsula Mountain Bike Club
This team really pushed themselves throughout the entirety of the race keeping us watching those top dots to see what would happen. In the end, the bike didn't allow them to close the gap and catch the Mercators, but a very strong race and a well-earned second. Peninsula Mountain Bike Club crossed the line at 7:25am to a lovely sunrise.

2026 Wilderness Traverse Champions!
At 5:53 am, Team 11 Mercators crossed the finish line in 1st place! Congratulations Una Hall, Scott Cocks, Patrick Lussier and Jerome Grenier-Desbiens!

Oh my aching dogs!
Wet feet, walked and biked on for hours can get a little cranky. Ok. A lot cranky. Managing your feet as a racer is a really important component of not just your comfort, but your race. Blisters and water swollen feet that crack / split and jammed toes can make moving on them near impossible. So... how does one keep these things from happening? It's not one thing and most racers have a personal practice they use to keep their feet under them for the many kilometers of a race.

An unexpected visitor
Things are relatively quiet at TA4 and the wildlife is giving into the curiosity that is people, bikes and maybe, just maybe some unattended snacks?? Alas, much sniffing by this foxy lady didn't seem to reveal anything delectable, but it DID give the volunteers at the TA a great chance at a photo!

Back of the Pack - 03:55
We're closer to sunrise than sunset at this point and teams are still pushing their way through the course in the darkest part of the night. Our back of the pack is still chugging along on the paddle. Our last team (W.I.L.D) is about to reach CP9 where volunteers are waiting for them with warm beverages and lots of encouragement. O

Mid-Pack, Mid-Trek
We have a TON of teams out on the second trek. This is a relatively straight forward trek, but night time conditions and brain fatigue will certainly put teams at risk or moving slowly and losing focus. There is just no way to predict exactly how things will shake out in the middle field - the conga line continues, but there's lots of room to maneuver in the rest of the race.

Third is still very much up for grabs!
Our top two teams - Mercators (11) and Peninsula Mountain Bike Club (13) have been tearing up the front of the pack for quite some time and the gap looks big enough that we're not sure anyone can catch them up on the bike (where both teams are strong). The question really is, can Mercators hold their top spot against the Peninsula Mountain Bike Club (13) who do say that biking is their forte? We'll be keeping an eye on this for sure! We marked out the current bike route with

All Female Check-In!
It's 3am, do you know where you're favourite all female team is? We do! Let's share, shall we? We have 4 of our 5 all-female teams still on course, which is AMAZING and we are expecting some epic stories are being made out there. Our first all female team - Les Folles Alliées (34) has just come into TA3 (whoot whoot!) and Grit and Giggles (33) aren't very far behind, so there is definitely still a real race for top female in progress. The Breakfast Club (52) continue to move

Is it too comfortable at TA3??
Transition areas are a potential time-suck. It's oh so easy to sit down, change some socks, have a snack, oh sure, another cup of soup sounds divine... and suddenly 20 min have disappeared. Teams should have a strategy for moving through TAs efficiently to make sure they don't fall into the TA trap! So we ask ourselves, is TA3 too comfortable? There's seems to be a bit of a party going on here! :) We jest. Mostly. We're pretty sure the mix of lights, a warm welcome from cheer

Cut-Offs & Courses - Explained
Welcome to Sunday! Sort of. It's 02:00 at HQ and things are surprisingly quiet on course (knock on wood!). So, it seemed like a good time to explain time cut-offs and the different courses racers may find themselves on. Cut-offs - why we have them. The race has a 30 hour time limit. To make sure teams will arrive back at the start/finish area within this period, critical points along the course are identified that that will make the timing and coordination of the dance teams
